Round 4 Taupo Saturday 8th February 2020

Round 4 Taupo Saturday 8th February 2020
It’s been dry so long no one even considered anything else and they were correct.
We had a very small entry which got smaller after race one. Paul was back however with Pinky and the billet block which led the way in qualifying with a 1:41.0, followed by Kayton and Kevin.

Race 1
Paul got away well in the pink Torana with Kayton hard on his heels. Kayton made a deep dive to get past at the end of the back straight on lap 3 but to no avail. Pinky then had a slightly more comfortable lead until half way around the final lap when a power steering fitting broke causing great clouds of smoke on the inside and outside of the car and so that was the end of Paul’s racing for the day. Chris Anderson’s JPS replica Mustang stopped on lap 5 with internal engine issues and was not seen again.

Race 2
This was a handicap race which Kevin in the white Charger made the most of and won in the end quite comfortably after Colin who was gaining managed to spin his Corvette on the exit of turn 5 and then execute a perfect smoky donut to the delight of all those watching. In the finish, Kevin was the winner, with Colin second and Kayton third.

Race 3
Another handicap which was not witnessed as I was away commiserating with Chris Anderson and hearing about this very cool 64 Fairlane he is building.
The results were another win to Kevin with Warren in the blue SLR Torana second and then Colin in the Corvette.

The current standings are:
Class A 1st Colin Schischka 1385, 2nd Tony Galbraith 860, 3rd Kayton Coughey 849.
Class B 1st Chris Anderson 1279, 2nd Kevin Burke 1179 3rd Mike Oldham 848
