  • The day was fine when we arrived at the track but were pleased to see that the V8Supercar pit tents were still up as the weather forecast for the day was less than perfect. There had been a race meeting at the track the day before and the Honda Cup class was also racing on the Sunday, it was however quite sobering to see the number of damaged cars that were still in the garages.
It was good to have a new car race with us Stuart Rowling from Hamilton with his very nice Walkinshaw Commodore

  • It was a small field of NMC cars that entered this meeting after some had raced the weekend before at the ITM 400. For the 2 members that did back up, one needed emergency panel beating (Paul Burnet) and the other Ross Golding needed to go to his backup car as the damage on his usual race car was too great to be fixed in time. Club member Tony Galbraith also received extensive damage at the ITM meeting.

  • I am pleased to say there was no hint of rain for this round compared to the Noah’s Ark deluge we had to survive at the previous round at Pukekohe.
We had a very good entry of 15 cars which included the guest appearances of Richard Ryan in the SLR 5000 Torana and Elliott Crawford in the 69 Corvette. New member Rowan Tonkin was racing for the first time, with our other new member Michael Crawley making his second appearance.

There were plenty of successes for the Northern drivers and a few failures along the way, but best of all there was plenty of excitement and action for those drivers who made the trek to Taupo.

  • The 2011 New Zealand Festival of Motor Racing hosted the fourth round of the Northern Muscle Cars series and the second of three combined NMC/CMC rounds. For the Northern drivers Hampton Downs is known to be merciless on brakes, gearboxes and axles and punishing of any inconsistency. The 27 Muscle Car drivers on the grid would have their work cut out trying to tame the track, but what a way to spend a weekend!
