Round 4 Hampton Downs Sunday 10th February 2019

The day was dry, the day was hot, the day was very very hot.

Qualifying
The drivers were hot with Dave Campbell in the Fox body Mustang fastest with a very good time of 1:11.758 and Michael Crawley in the Commodore with a PB of 113.215, then Ross G, Paul and Kayton all in the 1:14s.

Race 1
Dave already on pole thought he needed a bit more of an advantage and moved before the lights went out and was penalised 10 seconds, however in the end this did not matter as Dave was to retire after lap 4 with what was later diagnosed as a plug lead issue. Meanwhile in the race Paul who had got a great start getting around both Michael and Ross was in the lead. Michael was fighting to recover some positions after a big tank slapping moment in the final turn on lap one. Paul led for a few laps with Ross snapping at his heels and was ultimately passed going into turn one. Paul tried to hang on but with water and oil temperatures soaring backed out of it to finish second to Ross. Next were Colin in the Corvette and new member Kevin in the Charger. During the race Kayton stopped after exiting the Porsche Hairpin with what was later analysed as a broken camshaft, but was to return with a vengeance in the first handicap race.

Race 2
This being a handicap race and there being quite a wide disparity in the lap times at this point meant that Dave and Michael had to start from pit lane. Warren led the field away in his blue SLR 5000 Torana and was never headed. Dave made the best effort at trying to catch him but had to settle for second. Back in the pack Paul and Ross were having another great battle with Paul getting ahead at the start but was passed by Ross on lap 3 and that was the way they ended the race.
Conditions for this race were very hot with extremely high temperatures being recorded by drivers for both water and oil, not to mention themselves.

Race 3
The one Paul did not want to happen as he had discovered the ROMAC harmonic Balancer coming apart and decided discretion was better than another engine build. He therefore handed the points lead in Class B he had just won back to Michael. This race was in the end won by Colin in the Corvette, followed by Ross in the Malboro Commodore and then Lee in the Historic NZV8 Falcon.
The Class Positions after Round 4 are now:
Class A: Colin Schischka, Ross Golding, Kayton Coughey
Class B: Michael Crawley, Paul Burnet, Wes Kidby
Invitation Class: Lee Budd, Paul Urquart
