Round 5 for Northern Muscle Cars dawned on a very fine and warm autumn day with a large entry field that also included a few invited cars from Racing Saloons & Production Muscle Cars making a total of 18 entrants.
Practice and qualifying got off to a flyer with new comer Dean Hansen in his potent Holden HQ edging out Tony Galbraith fearsome Valiant Charger for pole position. Paul Burnet’s XU-1 Torana was a casualty after two laps retiring for the season with an over pressurised oil system.
Race 1 and Galbraith reversed that order to the finish line with a really good fastest lap of 1.09882 but the heat really went on mid pack between Veen Smith VK Commodore, Cam Crawford XA Falcon and Mike Dias VN Commodore with only 200ths of second separating the three.
Race 2 saw the first of the handicap races where a very nimble little Honda Civic driven by Gavin Gladstone finished over the line just ahead of hard charging Hansen and Galbraith.
Race 3 another handicap race and final for the day saw Hansen get over the line (best lap time of 1.10097) in less than a second from Galbraith with a consistent 4th place to Colin Schischka in his rapidly quick big block Chev Corvette.
